Natural Weddings

Wednesday, July 6th, 2011 | By Melissa Vest | 1 Comment »

Tonight I was online getting a few sets of thank you cards at Night Owl Paper Goods, and I ran across these sweet cake toppers.  I knew I just had to share them with you all.  Instead of just posting the toppers I thought it’d be better to pull together a whole natural look for a wedding.  Of course I had to make sure everything was budget friendly, and I absolutely love the idea of incorporating natural elements in to a wedding since many of them are inexpensive or even free.  Twigs, rocks and herbs from the garden (as seen in the bridal bouquet), can all cost very little while still delivering high style.  Here’s how to get the look for less:

1.  Owl Wedding Cake Toppers from Night Owl Paper Goods for $115

2.  Centerpiece Idea from Ruffled Blog

3.  Thank You Stamp from Olive Manna for $19

4.  Eco Friendly Invitations from Minted starting at $2.34 ea.

Amanda Schlicher of Tangerine Studio

Amanda Schlicher is such a wonderful photographer and artist, I just knew I needed to interview her for The Frugal Style.  She’s the owner of Tangerine Studio (Love the name!) in Milwaukee, WI, and I asked her to share a little bit about her photography and about being a small business owner.  She also shared some of her favorite tips for brides-to-be!  Sit back, relax and enjoy this wonderful interview with Amanda:

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself and about your business?

I am a people photographer. I love telling stories through images. I’ve been shooting professionally for about 6 years, and last year I started my own business, Tangerine Studio. Weddings are a large part of my business but I also do headshots for professionals and actors. Lately my focus has been leaning more toward editorial and commercial work. I’d love to be developing more in that direction in the future.

2. Could you tell us about how you became a small business owner?  What you did to get started?

Actually, it took me quite …

Let’s FALL in Love!!!

To me fall is the perfect time to have a wedding.  That may be because I got married in November?  (Not that I’m partial to the season or anything!)  It’s a time of wonderfully crisp cool days, with nature playing a symphony in the background. What better decoration can a bride ask for than changing leaves in exciting colors? I also love the rich jewel tones and the bright orange of pumpkins that come with the season.  Here’s a great collection of items for a fall wedding, all on a budget of course, and all equally  appealing.  Adding in a bit of rustic touches keeps the look comfortable and fits right in with the season of hay rides, apple picking and cozy sweaters:

1-  Burnt Orange Rose Earrings from Muchloveilly for $10

2-  Boutonniere in Purple Feathers from Pomp and Plumage for $14

3-  I Carry Your Heart Heart Ring Bowl from Paloma’s Nest for $52

This is a wonderful keepsake for the bride and groom, and will hold their rings after the wedding.

4-  Pleated …

Photo Love Wedding Photography

Some girls dream about the dress.  Some of us fuss over the flowers and decorations, but in my opinion the photographer is one of the biggest decisions you can make about your wedding.  Not only are they capturing your special day, they also need to reflect your personal style.  Finding someone who is creative and fits in your budget is the icing on the cake.  I recently discovered the work of Kaitlyn Whitman, a local photographer here in Northwest Arkansas.  She is a bride’s dream! Not only is she artistic and creative, her style is so inspiring.  You can check out her portfolio online at The Photo Love.  Here are a few things that caught my eye:

One of my favorite ideas from Kaitlyn’s portfolio was her great use of props for wedding party photos.  These mustaches were my favorite!  You can get a set of eight from Little Retreats on Etsy for $18, or you can make your own.  I love the idea of …
